A Gigantic Solar-Thermal Plant - East of Plaster City, CA Stirling Energys Kevin Harper takes you to the future site of his companys enormous solar-thermal plant at the base of the Coyote Mountains on the Western edge of the Imperial Valley, just miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border along Interstate 8. The company hopes to have the plant operational within five years. Once built, itll be one of the largest solar projects in the world, producing more than 750 megawatts, enough energy to power around 600,000 homes. The recently-approved Sunrise Powerlink transmission corridor will carry this power over the mountains to San Diego. Video by KQED's Rob Schmitz. www.kqed.org/climatewatch
